Covid-19, the pandemic, unprecedented times, lockdowns and tiered systems have changed the way we live. Some of the biggest impacts have been on our everyday lives including our eating habits; what we eat, when we eat, where we eat and who we eat with!
Throughout the national and regional lockdowns one good thing has remained, takeaways.
Across the Llyn Peninsula, and more specifically from Abersoch to Pwllheli, we have been lucky enough to have access to great takeaway food. Curries from Spice and The Jewel in the Crown, Chinese from The Bamboo House and Phoenix, a fabulous choice of fish and chips from Allports, Arvonia and The Creel, pizzas from Crust and a host of Mediterranean foods from Nanas and Pekish.
Add to this some great coffee shops, delis and ice cream parlours such as Abersoch Beach Café, Abersoch Deli, Buffers, Caffi Sol, Felin Fwyd, Glasu, Footprints Café, Kin & Co, Llanbedrog Beach Bar (Aqua), The Little Tea Rooms and Two Islands our taste buds have been be easily indulged.
As lockdown hit the Lleyn Peninsula we lost access to many of our favourite restaurants. Whilst the social aspect of dining out and the unique atmospheric ambience could not be recreated (we tried!) we were pleased that many of our local restaurants turned from dining in to dining out! Takeaways became available from many Abersoch favourites including Manana, Zinc, Fresh, The Vaynol and The St Tudwal’s Inn and from Llanbedrog, The Glyn y Weddw, The Ship and our dearest neighbours at Tremfan Hall. Takeaway Sunday lunch has never tasted so heavenly and street food so good!
Moving towards Pwllheli we saw Pontoon and more outlets tempting our takeaway taste buds. Social media was bursting with dining out menus and we responded in droves, keen to grab a bite of our local favourites. Not only did we experience a boom in takeaways but the local industry itself began to expand leaving new opportunities and openings. In recent weeks we have seen the launch of two new takeaways in Pwllheli, Flipside Bakery and Pizza and El Chiringuitos.
So, whilst we have experienced challenging times in 2020 and potentially 2021, we must remember and be thankful to all the local business who kept and keep cooking, giving us a little bit of culinary normality in the Covid-19 chaos!
Amseroedd Tecawe!
Mae Covid-19, y pandemig, cyfnod digynsail, cyfnodau clo, a’r systemau haenog wedi newid ein ffordd o fyw. Mae rhai o’r effeithiau mwyaf wedi bod ar ein bywydau bob dydd gan gynnwys ein harferion bwyta; beth rydyn ni’n ei fwyta, pryd rydyn ni’n bwyta, ble rydyn ni’n bwyta a gyda phwy rydyn ni’n bwyta!
Drwy gydol y cloeon cenedlaethol a rhanbarthol mae un peth da wedi parhau, sef siopau tecawê.
Ar draws Penrhyn Llŷn, ac yn fwy penodol o Abersoch i Bwllheli, rydym wedi bod yn ddigon ffodus i gael bwyd tecawê gwych. Cyri o Spice a The Jewel in the Crown, Bwyd Tsieineaidd o The Bamboo House a Phoenix, dewis gwych o bysgod a sglodion o Allports, Arvonia a The Creel, pizzas o Crust a llu o fwydydd Môr y Canoldir gan Nanas a Pekish.
Ychwanegwch at hyn siopau coffi, delis a pharlyrau hufen iâ gwych fel Abersoch Beach Café, Deli Abersoch, Buffers, Caffi Sol, Felin Fwyd, Glasu, Footprints Café, Kin & Co, Bar Traeth Llanbedrog (Aqua), The Little Tea Rooms a Two Islands rydym wedi cael ein sbwylio.
Wrth i’r cyfnod clo gyrraedd Pen Llŷn fe wnaethom golli’r cyfle i fynd i lawer o’n hoff fwytai. Er nad oedd modd ail-greu’r agwedd gymdeithasol o fwyta allan a’r awyrgylch unigryw (fe wnaethon ni drio!) roeddem yn falch bod llawer o’n bwytai lleol wedi troi o giniawa i mewn i giniawa allan! Daeth bwyd tecawê ar gael gan nifer o ffefrynnau Abersoch gan gynnwys Manana, Zinc, Fresh, The Vaynol a Thafarn Sant Tudwal ac o Lanbedrog, Glyn y Weddw, Y Llong a’n cymdogion annwyl yn Tremfan Hall. Nid yw cinio dydd Sul tecawê erioed wedi blasu mor hyfryd na bwyd stryd mor dda!
Wrth symud tuag at Bwllheli gwelsom Pontoon ac eraill yn ein temtio â’u bwyd i gludo allan. Roedd y cyfryngau cymdeithasol yn orlawn o fwydlenni bwyta allan ac fe wnaethon ni ymateb yn llu, yn awyddus i gael tamaid o’n ffefrynnau lleol. Nid gweld siopau tecawê yn ffynnu yn unig wnaethom ni, ond dechreuodd y diwydiant lleol ei hun ehangu gan gynnig cyfleoedd newydd. Yn ystod yr wythnosau diwethaf rydym wedi gweld lansiad dwy siop tecawê newydd ym Mhwllheli, Flipside Bakery and Pizza ac El Chiringuitos.
Felly, er ein bod wedi profi cyfnod heriol yn 2020 ac o bosibl 2021, mae’n rhaid i ni gofio a bod yn ddiolchgar i’r holl fusnesau lleol a ddaliodd ati i goginio ac sy’n dal wrthi, gan roi ychydig bach o normalrwydd o ran bwyd i ni yn anhrefn Covid-19!
